The Jeunesses Musicales de Belgique are well known of the public for their actions diffusing musical culture for the school-age children. A small group of half a dozen people manages the activities of the J. M. for the ensemble of the French Community. Its main activity is the organization of musicians tours from all horizons in secondary schools.
The circumstance of a move towards new locals imposed the necessity of a redesigning of space without to much expanse.
The approach here -which justifies the appelation interior urbanism project- discerns and separates the collective realm of the group (with new devices) from the individual areas of each of the workers (who recuperate and dispose the existing furniture according to their own preference).
The image is the one of a street lined by houses, at the modest scale of a +/-90m² space. A large part of the work was talking with all to attempt a definition of the group.
But order does not mean rigidity. The shape given to the central street has nothing to do with the stereotypes the word street could evoque. The line is closer to the so frequent associations of music and the undulating lines.
Recently I had examined the problems of the materialisation of undulations for the pedestal of the Porteur d'Eau of Therese Chotteau, and practical reasons made me adopt the same synthesis of sinusoids by combinations of circle arcs and straight segments.
